Therapeutic and Blue Barrier™ Tints

BPI® Filter Vision™ Blue Barrier® tints were developed to provide maximum blue light protection. Blue light is the dominant component of skylight and a major cause of glare. Aging and a number of ocular conditions can make eyes extremely sensitive to what is normally seen as moderate glare, and these same pathological conditions also increase the possibility of veiling glare caused by blue light scatter within the eye. If you want to reduce glare and relieve discomfort for your patients, there is one simple thing you can do; filter out UV and blue light.

Pre-tinted demonstration lenses in these therapeutic colors are available in Product Code 80919, Tinted Therapeutic Lens Pair.

DENSITIES FOR BPI SPECIALTY LENS TINTS

We are often asked how dark a lens should be tinted in order to obtain the desired spectrum for a BPI Specialty Tint, such as the Designed Spectrum 600 tint. The correct answer is of course to use a spectrometer, such as the BPI Spectrometer, to obtain a curve of the transmittance of the lens that you are tinting and verify that the cut-off has arrived at the appropriate point: 500nm in this case. If you don't have a spectrometer, BPI visible light meters may be used to closely approximate the correct curve by using the "VIS" readings on BPI Dual Computer Cal meters. The Tv readings on the BPI meters that provide Tv (such as the BPI Dual Computer Cal/Luminous Transmittance Meter, the BPI RGB Spectrometer and the BPI Mini Meter) may also be used. The table below provides the information needed to determine correct lens tinting.
